Building We are The Helpful: My Journey as a Solo Founder and the Power of Community |
<p><span style="color: var(--redactor2-text-color);">Starting and growing We are The Helpful as a solo founder has been an incredible journey so far - one that has challenged me, shaped me, and, most importantly, connected me with some of the most extraordinary and supportive communities. </span></p><p><span style="color: var(--redactor2-text-color);">Moving from Australia to the UK and launching a business on my own was no small feat, but the power of finding like-minded people who truly want to see you succeed has been a game-changer. One of those communities is Buy Women Built, and I’m incredibly proud that We are The Helpful is now part of this movement.</span></p>
<p>The statistics around female entrepreneurship in the UK are staggering - and not in a good way. Women are 30% less likely to start a business in the UK compared to the USA, Canada, and the Netherlands. Only 1 in 3 UK entrepreneurs is female, and a shocking 80% of young people aged 11-18 can’t name a single female entrepreneur. That matters because visibility shapes possibility - if young girls don’t see women building businesses, they don’t grow up believing they can do it themselves.</p>
<p>This is why Buy Women Built is so important. It’s more than just a directory of female-led businesses; it’s a movement that champions the work of women who are building, innovating, and leading. It shines a light on businesses like mine and so many others, encouraging people to actively support and invest in female founders. Because when women start businesses at the same rate as men, we add an additional £250 billion to the UK economy. That’s not just good for women - it’s good for <em>everyone</em>.</p>
<p>For me, We are The Helpful is about more than just gifting. It’s about rethinking how we show up for each other, especially in the moments that truly matter. And in many ways, Buy Women Built embodies that same ethos - championing and celebrating the women who are showing up, doing the work, and changing the landscape of entrepreneurship.</p>
<p>So, if you want to make a difference, start by supporting women-led businesses. Seek them out, buy from them, engage with their posts and share their work. Because when we back women, we build a better future for everyone.</p>
